Embracing Celebrating Diversity Nursing Program Launched

Abeer medical group have always acknowledged the paramount importance of hiring staff from different nationalities /cultures/background knowledge, skills /experiences and other ideologies. Diversity has been one of Abeer’s core values since it has opened one of the largest Medical centers (Sharafiyah) in the heart of Jeddah ,1999.

Since then, Abeer has grown in to a health care giant operating a chain of medical centers, hospitals, pharmacies and optical outlets across major cities in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region. Serving more than 4 million patients per year, Abeer has been the employer of choice for many health care workers from different cultures and nationalities, from Asia (Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Burma), from Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eretria, Nigeria) and Middle East (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh) and Gulf region (Saudi Arabia, Syria, Palestine, Yemen)

Understanding the various interpersonal and organizational challenges involved in implementing a diverse workforce culture where every individual’s talents, skills, experience and ideologies are acknowledged and accepted the Corporate Nursing Department have developed a robust all -year-round celebration initiative/ program.

Aiming to improve the “team spirit” across the Abeerian workforce, creating a culture of adaptation/respect and tolerance for a more healthier working environment, enhance individuals’ talents and skills and differences which can be used as a strength or attribute to the pool of Abeer’s workforce.

Furthermore, the program’s goal is also to enhance general knowledge and understanding of our colleagues’ different cultures and traditions by creating platforms, cumulative events and weekly activities where by the following will be shared via video, flyers and photos

 

·         The National flag

·         National anthem (staff will be able to sing their national anthem during weekly events)

·         Traditional dress/costume/make up and jewelry

·         National flower/animal

·         National landmarks/cities/museums/national wonders and unique landscapes

·         Greetings /cultural signals and unique phrases will be taught and staff will be able to learn different languages

·         Tasting of traditional foods/snacks and beverages during weekly activities

·         Discussions and internal interviews will be held among colleagues identifying characteristics and personal traits unique to that specific nationality

 

Studies have shown that organizations that embrace diversity as their core values, such organizations have more happier and productive staff, Improved employee engagement, reduced employee turnover, enhanced workforce pool of talented staff with unique capabilities, foster problem-solving skills and increased better decision-making capabilities   which ultimately gives the organization a competitive edge among other similar organizations.
